Another Weekend - Another Visitor!

Hello and Happy Labor Day Weekend! This weekend has been a lot like our last few weekends in that it has been action packed and we had visitors!
For the most part this past week has been fairly uneventful (except the birth of a friend's baby girl). Stephanie has been doing more than her fair share of taking care of Kai this week so that I can get caught up at the old 9-5. I was very productive this past week and nearly got everything crossed off the ever growing to-do list! I would like to give a special thanks to Stephanie for not only being a fantastic mommy but a great wife as well!

Yesterday (Saturday 8/30) was a very productive day. We battled some clutter that had accumulated on our planning desk in our kitchen, did a few loads of laundry, had an amazing lunch that we cooked out on the grill (NY Strip Steak w/ corn on the cob), made a trip to the pool, and even ate dinner at Chic-Fil-A.
Today (Sunday 8/31) was a very early morning as Kai decided to get up at around 5am. I'm not really sure if it was a conscious decision to start his day so early but he did choose to pull himself up to a standing position and didn't really want to let go of the crib's railing. With such an early start, we were able to go and get breakfast at Panera Bread on our way down to church and still get there on time for the 9am. After church, we took over a meal to our friends who just had a baby girl on Monday. Its funny, but you definitely forget how small newborn babies are. Baby girl is just a little bigger than Kai was when he was born but it just seems impossible that Kai was ever that small!

This afternoon, Grandma and Grandpa Lesnet came to visit for a few hours!! Kai had a blast playing with his grandparents. Kai crawled all over the place, told his grandparents all about his day (ba! ba! ba!), was fed some green beans and sweet potatoes by grandma, and was his normal all-around charmer.

Kai is now in bed and mom and I are ready to turn in as well. We both have tomorrow off (it's Labor Day!) and we have some plans to hang with our neighbors, the Stewart's but other than that it should be a pretty relaxed day!

Summer's Over Already?

Life has been pretty busy here at the Holiday Inn…er, I mean the Lesnet house! We have had overnight guests each of the past 3 weekends and we have loved every minute of it!

3 weeks ago, the Patterson’s were in town from Arizona. Last weekend Grandpa and Grandma Eridon were in town for a wedding that was up in Anderson. This past weekend the Martin’s (also from Arizona) were here for a night. We really enjoy hosting our friends and family so if you would like to come and hang out with the Indiana Lesnet’s and get a shout out on our blog, please come and visit!

Although we have enjoyed all of our visitors very much, family always gets a little extra mention here on the old blog. Grandpa Eridon has a twin brother who’s name is Uncle Kris (seriously – first name is Uncle…their folks must have been on to something). Uncle Kris and Aunt Bev were also in town for the wedding and they came over for dinner on Friday evening. We grilled up some chicken and sweet corn and had a very nice family dinner. The rest of the weekend with the grandparents was awesome too! Grandpa and I went and played 9 holes of golf on Saturday morning (he kicked my booty). Grandpa and I also went to a late night showing of The Dark Knight at the IMAX, it is a great flick but it’s a bit dark for the kiddies. On Sunday, we celebrated Grandma Eridon’s 39th birthday at Red Robin, yum! As always, Kai really enjoyed his time with the grandparents and Stephanie and I enjoy catching up on our rest since Kai is so well taken care of.
Since our last posting, we had a sick bug wreak havoc on our innocent little family. On one night Kai didn’t sleep at all so mom and I had to take turns holding him all night long. On the bright side, the Olympics are live on TV in the middle of the night so we were able to watch a lot of the action live! This bug has some pretty good staying power but we are all feeling much better than we did.

Stephanie is leaving PricewaterhouseCoopers! She has worked there for 10 years and she is now moving on to be the Director of Financial Reporting at Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis. Stephanie and her new boss used to work together at PwC and he called her out of the blue to see if she was interested in back-filling for his old job since he was recently promoted. Her last day at PwC will be September 12th and her first day at the bank will be September 29th. She is very excited about starting something new but she will miss working with her team at PwC.

Stephanie took her last ever business trip with PwC last week up to Chicago. She left on Sunday evening and came back on Wednesday evening. That left the boys home alone! Stephanie enjoyed her time up in Chicago and even went to Harry Caray’s and Morton’s Steak House while she was up there. Kai and I didn’t eat nearly as well as mom did but we had a lot of fun hanging out! Although everyone had a great time, we were all very happy when mom came home and the Indiana Lesnet’s were all together again!!

Stephanie and I have started celebrating the upcoming nuptials of our friends Eugene and Kim. They are getting married on September 13th so there is a lot of parties leading up to the big one next month. Stephanie went to a bridal shower last weekend and I played golf this past weekend down at Heartland Crossing (a darn fine course that I highly recommend). We will probably have a couple more events coming up!

Kai is continuing to grow up so quickly! He celebrated his 7 month birthday since our last blog post. In addition to crawling all over the place, he is now able to pull himself up in to a standing position! It is always funny to walk in to his room when he wakes up and see him standing there staring at the door waiting for you to come and get him. It seems like just yesterday we had to keep his head supported all the time and now he can stand up. Wow! I definitely see why parents always talk about how quickly time flies and how fast kids grow up.

Is Crawling an Olympic Sport?

Kai crawled today. He crawled on all 4's and went about 6 feet before performing a face plant that dad scored a perfect 10! He really enjoyed that he could go so fast! Crawling on all 4's is much faster than the army crawl. I think mom and I just entered a whole new world of parenthood now that the boy can get around so quickly!

This past week has been very busy but we didn't have a lot of real notable highlights until last night. Last night we ordered pizza and went over to visit the Feeney's. They have 2 adorable little girls, one turns 3 this month and the other just turned 1. Kai had a great time playing with the girls, especially Mackenzie, their 1 year old. Here is a picture of Kai with Alexandria who will turn 3 this month. Mackenzie was getting ready for bed so we didn't get any pictures of them playing together which is a shame because it was really cool (the ladies would say "cute" and I would agree, but I have a manly reputation to live up to).

Today has been a lot of fun. We are making all of Kai's baby food right here in our very own kitchen. We made a lot of it today, we made mangoes (he ate mangoes this week and really liked them), sweet potatoes and peaches. We also made some foods that he hasn't had yet like pears, peas and squash. I am still losing my "let's make some steak for Kai" battle...I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I get the okay to puree some good old red meat for the boy!

For those of you who are still reading, here is the story. Kai took the most hugest poop ever today! This thing was ridiculous! It completely filled the diaper and went out both leg holes and exploded up the back. He had poo all the way up to his neck! It got even more hilarious when we took off his outfit and it got all up in his hair. The bad thing about poo is that it's poo and is therefore pretty gross. The good thing is that it cleans up pretty easily with soap and water and you usually feel a lot better after you go. Anyway, here are some pictures of the carnage!

August Already?!?!

It's hard to believe but August is already here! August is going to be a huge month as we will have a lot of visitors coming to beautiful Central Indiana! We are looking forward to the company but first I need to get you all caught up on our last couple of weeks.

The biggest news for us is that our new nanny, Melissa started on Friday (7/25)! We survived 2 weeks without a nanny, it was fun, but we are sure glad that Melissa is here now! Thanks again to everyone who prayed for us and helped us get through the transition.

The Indiana Lesnet house is now officially baby proofed. I'm sure Kai will still find a way to pick up some bumps and bruises here at the house, but hopefully these few measures will help prevent a trip to the old E.R.. We have some pretty awesome gate configurations and our kitchen drawers and cabinets are a little tricky now. We would like to invite everyone over to test our home's new safety features.

Kai has quite the well rounded diet of fruits and vegetables now. In addition to the cereal, avocados and bananas that he had on our last post, he now eats sweet potatoes, peaches, green beans, carrots and applesauce. He loves the peaches just like daddy! I keep putting steak on Kai's "to do" list of foods to try but it keeps getting crossed off...

Last weekend, there were some classes offered at our church. They had things like "Chasing After God", "Intro to Common Ground", and even a class on budgeting. I took a class on Raising a Modern Day Knight, which is based on a book by the same name that is authored by Robert Lewis. The book is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to all men and especially to those men whom God has trusted with a son.

Kai has made a few developmental milestones since my last update. First off, he can now get in to the seated position by himself. He is also getting pretty close to crawling. He has been "army crawling" for the past couple of weeks but he is now getting up on all 4's and rocking back and forth. He can crawl backwards a little bit but he hasn't quite figured out going forward yet. When he tries to go forward, he ends up doing a shoulder roll on to his back. It's pretty funny but I haven't been able to catch it on video yet. Since he is getting so mobile, we have lowered his crib to the lowest possible setting. It looks a lot more like a big boy bed now but it is kind of rough to reach down and pick him up in the AM when your back is still pretty tight after a night of sleep.

We had an enormous day today! We got up and went to church in the morning where we heard a great sermon. Common Ground, posts all of the sermons on their website, so I would highly recommend that you check it out! After church, we ran a couple of errands and then went downtown to Victory Field to see the Indianapolis Indians take on the Toledo Mudhens! We only were able to make it through the 3rd inning but we had a blast! Kai loved the atmosphere and he even got a little coin bank of Rowdy, the Indians mascot. The ABC's (Avocados, Bananas, and Corolla)

There has been a lot going on with the Indiana Lesnets over the past 9 days since our last post. Since our last post, Kai has added a couple of foods to his diet, he celebrated his 6 month birthday with a trip to the doctor, we survived our first week without a nanny, and we made a trip to Ohio to see both sides of our extended family.

I will try to do my best to fill you in but Kai is being a little difficult this evening and he doesn't want to go to bed.

Since our last entry, Kai has added Avocados and Bananas to his quickly expanding "solid" food diet. We are giving him a new food every 4 days so we can make sure that he isn't having any adverse reactions to the new foods. So far, his only reactions have been some funny faces and some spitting which has resulted in a lot of laughs for his parents and a lot more bibs in the laundry. I would say that his favorite "solid" food is avocados. The 2 pictures below are some action shots from Kai's first experiences with fruit.

This past week was pretty interesting since we didn't have a nanny and Kai had his 6 month doctor's appointment. Max's mom took Monday off of work and watched both Kai and Max. Stephanie took Tuesday off and reciprocated by watching Max. I took Wednesday off and watched a very cranky Kai after his morning doctors appointment, where he received a bunch of vaccinations (he weighed in at17 lbs 0 ozs and he was 26 3/8 inches tall). Stephanie then took Thursday and Friday off to watch Kai.

On Friday (7/18) after I got out of work, we left for Ohio for a family filled weekend trip. We got to Stephanie's parents house in Bowling Green on Friday night and Kai was able to meet Aunt Jessica for the first time. She currently lives in Japan where she teaches English.

Saturday was supposed to be a quiet day as Grandpa and Grandma Eridon were heading up to Holland Michigan for a wedding. It didn't get off to a quiet start though as Grandpa didn't see our little Corolla in the driveway and backed in to it. The Corolla is a beast and came through with some relatively small scuffs. Their CR-V on the other hand took on some pretty good road rash, or is that driveway rash? Other than that early morning excitement, Saturday lived up to its expectations of being a slow day.

Sunday was extended family day. We had a lunch get-together with the Lesnet family at Uncle Gary's farm in Montpelier Ohio (I believe that the official title is a Briner family reunion(Grandma Lesnet's maiden name), but the Lesnet cousins are invited as well [their last name is Bordner...family reunions are funny]. This was the first chance that most of the family has had to see Kai. Kai really enjoyed meeting the family and we think that everyone really enjoyed meeting Kai! There was a really good turnout this year, but I didn't catch the final count. If you are a Lesnet or Briner cousin and you weren't able to make it this year, we sure hope to see you next year! The next picture is of my first cousins and our kids. As you can see, the old Y chromosome is not prevalent in my family either (Stephanie is the oldest of 3 girls and all of the Eridon cousins are also girls).

After the Lesnet/Briner reunion, we came back to Bowling Green to have a dinner with Grandma Eridon's family. We stayed another night and came home after having lunch with Great Aunt Bev and Cousin Kelly. We pulled in to the driveway at about 5:30 or so, and we are very glad to be here!

As you can see, we have been extremely busy since our last blog update. We had a very busy 9 days and this next week is going to be even more hectic than this past week. Melissa, our new nanny, starts this Friday (7/25). Until then, our friends will be helping us by taking turns watching Kai. We would like to thank everyone in advance for helping us and for being answers to our prayers! God has truly provided us with amazing friends and an incredible church family down here in Indy!

PRAISE THE LORD!!

The Indiana Lesnet's have just finished up a very busy and very eventful week.

As I said in our last blog posting, our very wonderful nanny Lizzie had to leave us and her last day was Friday. She did a great job taking care of the boys (Kai and his friend Max). She loved the boys and they were very fond of her. We are sad to see her go, here is a picture of her on her last day on the job.
On Friday, we hired Lizzie's replacement! Her name is Melissa and she will be starting with us in a couple of weeks. Melissa observed Lizzie on Friday to learn the ropes a bit and spend some time with the boys. The boys really like her and we are looking forward to her watching the boys in a couple of weeks. It is a huge blessing to have a new nanny!

Also on Friday, Republic Airways Holdings issued a press release saying that they are going to lay off 500 or so employees. Working for an airline always poses an interesting set of challenges and this is definitely an extra interesting time. I have been told that my job is safe for now and that is definitely a reason to rejoice and praise the Lord!!

Kai turns 6 months old this next week. Kai will celebrate his birthday with some immunizations at the doctor's office so we thought we would take his monthly growth pictures today since he will probably be a little grumpy on his actual birthday.

Kai ate his first "solid food" today. He had some rice cereal and he did a good job eating it. We caught it on video but we won't be posting it on the blog. It was just anticlimactic really as he didn't make any faces, he didn't cry, and he kept a pretty good percentage of the food in his mouth. Kai did great at eating with a spoon. Mom and I struggled a bit though. The cereal is pretty much the same consistency as milk and the baby spoons aren't very deep so a lot of the cereal fell off the spoon before it got anywhere near Kai's mouth!

We took Kai to the neighborhood pool for the first time today. He was definitely a little more at ease in the water since this wasn't his first time swimming. We picked him up some new "Body Glove" board shorts and UV shirt a couple of weeks ago. Here is a picture of him modeling his new threads!

16 Days Without Blogging?!?!

It has been 16 Days since I have last updated our Blog and it seems like a lot has happened since then. Hopefully I will be able to keep it all straight (and in chronological order).

First off, on June 16th, we celebrated Kai's 5 month birthday. On his birthday, we had a photo shoot and a couple of his pictures were with his monkey "growth chart". They may not show the growth length quite as well as my pictures, but these pictures are awesome, they really show that the professional photographer is much more talented than I am.
Right after we returned from vacation, our nanny called in sick for 3 whole days! Stephanie was too busy at work to stay home with Kai so I got to play "manny" for for a few days. I was also feeling a little under the weather myself and had a few items at work that I needed to deal with (since we were on vacation the prior week) so I was pretty happy on Wednesday afternoon when I got to go back to the office. Kai survived and I think he enjoyed his time with dad, but we know he was glad when mom relieved dad on Wednesday afternoon!

Last weekend (June 27 - June 29), the Indiana Lesnets were not in Indiana anymore. I had a work trip down to the Florida Keys for a golf tournament. My team was not very good but fortunately, the other teams were lousy as well and we came in 3rd. I got a cool trophy and I have it proudly displayed in my office at work. Since I was out of town for the weekend, Stephanie and Kai went to Bowling Green, Ohio to visit Grandma and Grandpa Eridon. Kai met some more of his cousins at a cookout and learned some new sounds and re-discovered his tongue while he was there (probably learned that from the cousins). In other weekend news, Grandma Lesnet turned 60 on Saturday the 28th. Happy Birthday mom!!

On Monday of this week, I played in the Hacker's Golf Outing with 11 other men from church. We played 36 holes with a different game for each 9 holes. Last year, I won my entry money back and a $25 gift card for closest to the pin. This year I didn't win a thing, but I had a great time.

This week, we had our 1,000 hit on our Blog! Thanks for reading! Keep checking back often, it makes the counter go up faster!!

This weekend has also been very hectic. Stephanie and I started cooking on Friday and we have been continuing to cook throughout the weekend. We have made enough food for 3 months worth of meals. We learned that we cannot make any more than 3 months at a time though because our chest freezer is completely full!

On Friday, we received an interesting text message from our nanny telling us that she is quitting to move back home and she was giving us 1 weeks notice. This really rocked our world because we were very comfortable with her and the boys (we share her with another family) really liked her as well. We are still in shock that she is leaving, but we are even more in shock that she quit via text message (seriously) and that she only gave 1 week.

Yesterday, we finally broke down and bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner. We got the DC 25, which is an all floors type with the ball steering mechanism. Very sweet! I was going to post a picture, but a website is worth something like 1,000,000 pictures, so check it out here.

Kai may be sitting up on his own. We're not sure of the definition of "sitting up" so we aren't going to go on record with it yet. Kai can sit up unassisted for a long time, look around, and even play for a while. If he gets startled, he falls over though. Here are some pictures of our boy sitting up...maybe. If you have any official definitions of "sitting up", please comment so we can know if our boy is a certified rock star or just a regular old rock star. He's also started getting up on all 4's this weekend. He can roll almost anywhere he wants to go, I don't think we're quite ready for him to start crawling yet!!

Kai was dedicated at church today. Grandma and Grandpa Eridon came down to witness the occasion. Grandpa Lesnet had to work this weekend so they weren't able to make it. The morning started off well and we even made it to church early. Stephanie was giving her parents a tour of the new church building while I stayed with Kai and talked with some friends. Kai decided to poo (everywhere but in his diaper, including through to the car seat for the first time ever) . Stephanie had the diaper bag, so I ended up covered in poo and so did Kai's outfit to be dedicated in. So..luckily we had an extra outfit in the diaper bag and Kai was dedicated in a Purdue onesie (and God said "it was good"). Grandpa Eridon video taped the dedication and I think he did a very good job. We got a couple of pretty good pictures today that we have posted below. He Must Be Contained!

Kai is mobile! He has learned to roll from his back to his tummy and also has learned to link his rolls so that we may no longer find our young son where we left him. The attached video is 3 minutes of unedited spine tingling action! I was going to add a song in to the background like I did on Kai's first daredevil video, but I had a hard time finding one that didn't overwhelm my awesome play-by-play commentary...look out Ernie Harwell, here comes Chad Lesnet! Okay, Ernie's legacy is probably safe, but I'm sure I can give Larry Clisby a run for his money.

In other news, our "Baby Wise" baby is back on Indiana time! I think it is due to his daddy coming across this here De Lorean...

Back Home Again...

The Indiana Lesnet's are back home again and although we had a fantastic time out in the desert, we are sure glad to be back!

We flew from Indy to Phoenix on Friday (June 6) arriving in Phoenix at around 7pm Arizona time. Kai did amazingly well on the flight, he did fuss a little bit but most people couldn't hear him because the back half of the plane was connecting to Vegas and they were very loud (in fact, the last couple of passengers had to be helped off of the plane because they were too tipsy). Kai was so good that the ladies in the row in front of us didn't even know that there was a baby on board until they were departing the plane!

Arizona is 3 hours behind Indiana, so that was about 10pm, which is waaaayyyy past young Mr. Kai's bedtime. We picked up our rental car (we splurged for a mini van, a Toyota Sienna) and promptly headed to the closest In-N-Out burger. After burgers, we headed down to Tucson that evening. We got to the Martin's house in Tucson at about 9:00 AZ time (midnight for us Indiana folks). Kai's timing was a bit off with the time change. He pretty much settled in to waking up on Indiana time and going to bed on AZ time. Stephanie and I definitely didn't catch up on any sleep while we were away.

On Saturday morning (6/7), I left at the crack of dawn and headed up to Casa Grande (half way between Phoenix & Tucson) to play some golf at Mission Royale Golf Club. It has been a long winter and I struggled mightily, but it was nice to get out and play. The rest of our Saturday was pretty chill as we all got caught up, ate some hamburgers, and watched the Kai and Cole play.

On Sunday (6/8), all 6 of us went up to Mount Lemmon. We had plenty of room for us 4 adults and the boys in the Sienna. On the way up, we had lunch at a Chuy's Baja Broiler. The food there is great and rumor has it that Lance Armstrong is a big fan of them, but after doing a bit of online research, I'm not sure if they are the same Chuy's (the menu's and mascots are different). We had a great time on Mount Lemmon. We have been up there before but we hadn't been to Rose Canyon Lake which is where we went this time. It was nice to beat the heat with by seeking some higher ground and the boys really liked the hikes being held in their carriers. On our way back, we had dinner at this pizza joint called Oregano's. That place was very good!

On Monday (6/9), Stephanie spent much of her day trying to get a report finished up for work, so I spent much of the day playing with Kai and Cole. We had lunch from Taco Juan's down in Tucson, it's a local joint and it is amazing! We make sure that we eat there every time we make it to Tucson. I did manage to get out and play 18 practice holes at Silverbell Golf Course. I made a huge comeback on my scoring and really started to shake some of that winter rust off of my golf swing. During golf, Stephanie and Tracey watched a chick flick. On Monday evening, we took the boys swimming for the first time in the Martin pool. It was neat the way that they kicked their legs as they were swimming around. They had a good time, but they got tired of it pretty quickly as well.

On Tuesday (6/10), we went shopping. We went shopping for Father's day gifts in the morning. In the afternoon, we went shopping for some clothes for me and went to the outlet mall to see if we could find any good deals on sneakers. On Tuesday evening, Stephanie and Tracey made The Pioneer Woman's Chicken Spaghetti, this stuff is AWESOME. It is so good that I think you should stop reading the blog and start making some Chicken Spaghetti. The spaghetti needs to bake in the oven for a while so you can come back and finish reading the blog while your dinner is baking.

Wednesday (6/11) was back to the golf course but not before we had some breakfast burritos from Nico's Mexican Food. Wow, these are the best breakfast burritos we've ever had and they are super cheap. If you are still reading this and haven't started making your Chicken Spaghetti yet, then I suggest you open another browser window and book some tickets to Tucson so that you can get some Nico's. While you are there, make sure you also check out Taco Juans! Chuck and I played Del Urich Golf Course. The Martins and the Lesnets had dinner that night at My Big Fat Greek Restaurant. I had lunch at a My Big Fat Greek Restaurant last year up in Phoenix and I really liked it. The food for dinner was okay but our server was fantastic. She was this young Greek chick (around 21-25) who questioned my manhood for not ordering something that was Greek enough. We ordered the Zeus Beer, isn't that Greek enough?

On Thursday (6/12), we ate at Nico's again! That alone would make for a great day, but after eating a burrito, we drove up to Phoenix to play golf at the Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Resort with Tracey's dad. I swung the club pretty well but the greens were lightning fast so my putting was terrible. I definitely played better than I scored.

After golf on Thursday, we went up to the North side of the city to see the Patterson's and their girls. The Patterson's used to live up here in Indy but they moved out to Phoenix a little over a year ago. We had a cookout with them and were able to get a nice picture of our families.

Okay, I'm a big sports nut. I'm a happy man though and I just had to share my joy with all of you loyal readers.

The big news this week (besides Detroit's 11th Stanley Cup) is that I got my hair cut. It was so dramatic that Stephanie wanted to take before and after pictures. As you can see from the after picture, I don't have a lot of hair at this time. I think that the new do makes Kai and I look a little more alike. His hair is growing in pretty quickly now though so I will have to let mine grow out if we're going to enter any father and son look alike contests.
It's so hard to get a group photo where everyone has their eyes open.

In other news, the Lesnet's are will be taking the desert by storm next week as we are heading out to Arizona to visit some friends. The Martin's had a little boy named Cole a month before Kai was born. We are really looking forward to getting out of the midwest and away from our offices for a week. I am taking along the golf clubs and I hope to finally get in a couple of rounds of golf while we are out there. Stephanie has just finished a major deadline at work and can really use this time away. Kai is planning on going swimming and maybe get a lesson on how to roll from his back to his tummy from little Cole. We are all a little nervous about the flight since it is 4 hours long and we won't get in to Phoenix until after Kai's bedtime. The timing for this trip is great and we will make sure that we post pictures when we get back.
